Good Mourning.

Postby Skylar on Tue Jul 07, 2009 9:58 pm

Lids would slowly, cautiously ease open. While there was little light offered, the white..white everywhere...would almost be too much. A grimace stole her features as she squinted while fighting to look around. Her body ached slightly as she began to stir, stretching while her muscles groaned with joy.

Her arms shook slightly as she pushed herself up and sat upon the side of the pod. Eager fists rubbed her eyes as a roar of a yawn ripped through the silence. The taste in her mouth was horrible, and she needed a smoke. “I’m awake!” The sarcasm dripped from her tongue. “Welcome home Lucy.” She rolled her eyes slightly and slid off the side of her resting place.

Unsteady legs quickly took footing and stood their ground. Her arms reached above her head stretching heaven bound. “Man, I feel like I’ve been beat with a bat.” Eyes now having time to adjust began to hungrily search the room. Where was she? What was this place? So many questions, yet not a soul in sight.

“Excuse me.” She took a few steps forward, searching for....something, hell...anything. “Anyone here?” She ran her fingers through her raven locks, disheveled, but that was normal, really. “God is there a kitchen in this place..” Her thoughts formed audible words. “What is going on here.....where is everyone....”

Before Cryo...

It was of no surprise that Dr. Iverson was overseeing her own Cryo. She stood in front of a large cryo chamber, made special so nothing would go wrong. Of course, Dr. Iverson saw it that way. "You're sure about this?" Came a voice from a palm pilot she had in her left hand. "I signed up for it. It would seem kind of anti-climatic to back out now Lu Lu." Dr. Iverson responded in a soft tone. Crossing her arms and looking at the chamber she hummed, thinking. "Are all the preparations ready?" She asked, looking down at the screen which displayed a little 'sprite' of a leggy girl walking around on her PDA with a short skirt and button up blouse on. "I guess so. What should I do about your synthesis project?"

Olivia smiled as she looked at the AI program's sprite as it threw off the top in favor for a tank top. She should have never uploaded that 'closet' wardrobe program for it, but it was too cute to ignore. "I guess put it on hold for now, unless you want to run a full biopsy and report." The little sprite looked at her and laughed. "Oh, riiiight. I want to spend the next three hundred years with a hunk of play dough as a pal in your lab. Do me a favor and shut me off, I don't want to have to be singing 'I've got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts' for the next three centuries." Lu Lu said while pulling down a lower eyelid and sticking her tongue out.

"Oh comon, you would have the entire Internet to browse and download illegal apps to make your breasts bigger and your ass fit into a size two." Dr. Iverson said with a chuckle. "Least I have something to show myself off to. Last time I checked I've never seen so much as a whisper of a boyfriend." Lu Lu smirked. "Have you been scanning my emails again Lucretia?"

"No."
"Liar."

It was with that the the good doctor smiled and shut off the PDA, effectively tucking her AI program to sleep for the next three hundred years. Looking at the Cryo chamber she shook her head. "Protocol says I have to keep the environment clean.. But can I at least keep my clothes on?" She sighed, "Guess not." She muttered as she disrobed and put her garments into a safe clean bag. Slipping into what little her lab had to offer, she found herself climbing into the Cryo chamber wearing naught but a towel.

"They're gonna love this.." She murmured, activating the automation program for the cryostat protocol.

In Cryo...

Dr. Iverson loved to dream. Dreams were a place where nothing had to make logical sense for her mind to grasp it. Time could pass in an instant, and a moment could last however long her mind wanted it to. However, work always crept into the equation. Several report files flashed in and out of existence, along with something far more interesting. It was a human being. He, or she lay upon a lab table, skin silver as mercury, and eyes open, staring blankly up at the world. It was then that any normal person would have woken up screaming. The person changed, slowly, shifting into a copy of Dr. Iverson herself. She sat up and looked at her hands, tested them by flexing her fingers, and blinked with the same eyes.

It was then, that the dream ended.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Wake up!

"Ugggh." was the first thing to escape Dr. Olivia Iverson's lips as she took her first unassisted breath in years. She had had a long nap it seemed. Muscles stiffly protested being used as joints popped and a dry mouth yawned loudly for its first bit of air. 'Ahh morning, the sun is shining, the lab is.. wait.. What the hell?' She thought, mornings were never good. Straining to open her eyes, Dr. Iverson was momentarily blinded as the light rushed to meet her. Mornings sucked.

"Lucretia.. Dim down the lab lights.." She murmured. When no response of either cheery little voice, nor lessoning of light came, all the memories came back. "Oh, fuck.." Dr. Iverson muttered as she reached up, testing the fact she was still wrapped up in a beach towel. Yep, it was there, along with the clean bag at her feet.

Pushing the door to the cryo chamber open, Olivia murmured and huffed. "Clothes.." She said, prioritizing as she let the towel fall away as she rummaged around for her effects. She was used to being naked in her lab, and most likely, she was alone anyway.

It took a clean five minuets of groping around, half blinded and a little bemused for Dr. Iverson to secure on her clothes. Reaching back into the Cryo chamber she unhooked a wire and pulled out a little black PDA. "Rise and shine sleepyhead.." She mumbled, not quite taking into stock that was another person nearby as she pressed the power button and waited for the piece of thousand-year-old technology to power up.

Sid would wake up trying to look around with the Cryo Chamber opening up. His eyes wouldn't pop open right away, "Grrrr pop open you eyes..." Sid would say forcing his eyes open and they popped open finally. "Damn..." His body was stiff all over. Had he known this would've been such a pain in the ass he'd have just stayed back in the past and not been frozen.

As he looked around his vision was blurry for only moment and he'd see two hot women well what he could make out that they were in the dimness of the room. "Wow it's a good thing they froze some good looking women for all this." He coughed a bit his mouth dry having hot had anything to drink for what he knew was a long time. He'd slowly push himself out of the chamber grabbing about for something to stabilize himself with before he fell and busted his ass. Too late he crashed to the ground on his side. "Damnit some one turn on the fucking lights!" He'd say to cover up the fact he'd fallen on his own without tripping.

As he was on the ground he figured being a hard headed asshole right now would probably not benefit him too well at this moment not wanting to injure himself further. "Well at least that bitch wife of mine is long dead and I don't have to split any property...with her" He just realized that if there's been any wars over the past 300 years it's very possible he had no home to return too. "Great, so where's the doc?"

A question that would soon be answered as she heard the murmur of other voices. Turning a corner her eyes would befall a rather beautiful woman. A curious brow would raise as Lucy allowed her eyes to roam freely about her. While the action may have come across sexual, it was anything but. She remembered some about the meeting before the freezing took place, and she knew everyone that was here was here for a reason, she was trying to decide what this womans purpose was.

She, even after how many years of being frozen, hoped she still looked good, or at least reasonably so. Her attire was rather simple, more simple then she had remembered. A nice white large towel had been laid over her body, now twisted around her form, with the corner tucked under her arm.

It was the scuffle behind the woman that caused Lucy to look around her to see a man sitting on the floor, and it was obvious he wasn’t just resting there. A cock-eyed grin eased over her lips. “Helleva way to wake up, eh?”

His words still swirled in her mind though. Long dead....Her family...her parents...friends. A lump quickly became stuck in her throat. The was real, very real. Nervously she reached up and ran her fingers across the pearls that coiled around her neck. When her mother had given to her, she said..”I want you to keep looking good, even in the future.” A small laugh escaped her lips, but she could only wonder if her mother really knew what was in store for any of them.

She cleared her throat and began to close the space between the two others and herself. “More light, less light, what’s it matter. My eyes are killing me the way it is.” She leaned against the wall, tucking her locks the best she could behind her ears, then wrapping her arms about her body.. “Either of you know anymore then I do? So far all I know is that I’m awake, and you two are, too. How many others are there suppose to be?”

She had a million thoughts going through her mind, but she didn’t want to overwhelm anyone, for all she knew, they could be in the same boat she was in, pretty much clueless. “By the way, I’m Lucy, chef extraodinaire.” She winked playfully and awaited some response.

The good doctor would feel a sharp small sting on the meat of her left buttock. If she were to turn around and see what had just handed her the tiny little surprise, she would see Cryo Bay Two’s Nurse bot had snuck up behind her and was moving away. It had a thick boxy base, and a long slender mechanical arm topped wit a “Head” that had several rubbery fingers protruding in a forward position. One of the “Fingers was open” Sporting a tiny syringe. It had just administered a surprise injection to help with her immunization of the air, not to mention it would help dull the after affects of such a long and arduous Cryogenic induced slumber.

“MAIN POWER GENERATOR OFF LINE…ROUTINE MAINTANENCE NEEDED AT SERVICE STATION.” would chime in over the facility’s PA system. The Med bot seemed less energetic then the one in Cryo Bay one. She had “Girlie” scratched into her plastic outer casing just like the one encountered y the other sleepers in the first Cryo Bay. She would then move over to the chef, and after discarding the first needle into near by BIO HAZARD- trash bin, presented another tiny syringe. She could not sneak up on the woman like she had done the doctor, so she stood, and raised her “Head” so that she was almost eye level with the cook. She would move back and fourth indicating that this had to be done. “..directive..” She chirped softly, the word being almost unintelligible, due to the barely functional robotic voice.

The door would slid open a few seconds later. A short stubby robot, resembling that of a tiny tractor with a camera attacked onto the top of his hull, and using treds for locomotion silently crept in. On his caged back he had Several Duffle bags, that had been collected from the storage locker. The bags would be tagged with the names of the individuals who they belonged to. He would sit, and wait patiently for the individual sleepers to approach him, and he would calmly hand them their belongings. Allowing them to put their clothing on and even freshen up.

"Hey now!" was the only thing said as suddenly there was a sharp pinch on her buttock. "I'm awake less than five minuets and I'm getting my ass pinched by a- uhh." Dr. Iverson said as she turned and noticed the medibot. "That's new. Never been felt up by a robot..." She muttered as she noticed the syringe. "Lovely, boosters."

It was then that her ears were met with an male voice. "I'm a scientist." Dr. Iverson replied, glancing back over her shoulder at the man. 'Who's he?' she thought as she looked around, noticing the other woman. "Chef? Wow, no more ramen noodles, I'm sad." She commented smugly as she crossed her arms and there was a soft jingle.

"Goooooood Morning.." Came a soft hum from Dr. Iverson's PDA. There was a yawn as Olivia looked down at the screen of the PDA and was greeted by a small sprite dressing. "Morning Lucretia." Dr. Iverson said softly as she looks around once more.

"Umm, Olly.. Why do my internal clocks read the year is wrong?" The voice from within the PDA queried. "Maybe it's a bug, it's been three hundred years, maybe you've developed a ghost in your programming." Olivia responded to the PDA. It was obvious she didn't talk much to anything else before consulting whatever was speaking through the PDA.

"Greeeeeeaaat, well, debugging... aaaaand nope, still reading like seven-hundred years over schedule..." The voice pouted. "Whatever Lu, I'll sort it out later." Olivia responded, looking up at the second robot. "Huh.." She had never seen those before. And what was this thing about a power gen offline? It didn't sound good...

"Oh, pardon me. I'm Dr. Olivia Iverson, Research Analyst." She said with a nod and a soft smile.

Shortly after the last cryo-pod roused its occupant, fingers and knuckles would grab onto the edge of the machine, helping a mid-twenties man out of the contraption, greasy, dirty blonde hair obscuring his vision ever-so-slightly.

The man was groggy, his eyes blood-shot and his face twisted into a slight sneer, he wasn't blinded by the light, rather; he was just confused. He had no idea where he was or how he got there, not that it was an uncommon situation for the man, but it was still rather annoying. Clutching at the one article of clothing that masked his shame, the man patted himself down, insuring that he had, in fact, not been cut open and harvested for organs, and also confirming that he had no prepackaged smokes on his person.

Bah.”

He muttered, looking about the room and noticing the other occupants, taking a few moments to stare, dumbfounded, before a synapse fired and a memory triggered.

“Oh … Oh damn. Ah, shit! Don’t that beat all.”

The man leaned back onto the cryo-pod, bracing himself against the thing, as his knees and legs regained composure. The sudden memory and sensations having knocked the wind out of him, he was warned about just such a thing, but he had initially dismissed it as trivial. Not that he would’ve remembered, anyways.

With his personal moment over, the man looked over to the others in the room, who seemed to have already gotten over their own introductions, but he quickly changed focus as he saw a duffel-bag totting robot, one of which had his name written on it.

Quickly and skillfully (read:drunkely) the man made his way to the thing, snatching up his bag and opening it, finding his personal effects contained within: A brimmed hat, pinched on the sides, shirts, pants, and mementos. Basically everything he had on him when he signed up for saving the human race, he thought.

Soon, the a wide smile would spread across the man's face, seeing his first worry from having woken up directly facing him, at the bottom of the bag, hidden under his hat, was a package of cigarettes, the smell of tobacco having had a long time to settle into the confines of the bag.

Fingers long-abused by time and hard work reached into the bag, removing the article of interest, only to find that the thin sticks of tobacco had long ago become useless and spitefully, the man threw the package over his shoulder, mumbling to himself and sighing aloud, before rummaging through the rest of the bang and proceeding to get dressed.

Sid would grin watching everyone."Hey Bot where's my booster shot?!" He softly pushed himself up to a standing position as another person awoke. It was the doc. "Hey doc care to take a look at me I think I busted my ass bone." Sid was a bit cranky from being cooped up so long at least one good thing happened in all those years. His nuts seemed to have stop swelling and return to normal from when he'd been kicked by his long dead wife. "Bitch ass wife of mine hope the coyotes or queers ate her."

There were two things Sid hated, bitches and queers. they'd driven him nuts back in the day. He would levy a greeting to everyone. "Hello all I'm Second Lt. Sidney Avignail, I'm your resident soldier. The one who'll be protecting you from whatever is up there roaming around." He would lean against the chamber he'd spent the past 300 years or so in. "Gahhh's there anything to eat? Ramen noodles would be good, fresh meat, anything... A couple people who don't wake could work too." Sid was jesting about the last thing. He'd laugh softly and reached in to his shirt pocket and pulled out one of his trusty pal mal cigarettes and went to light up.

She knew what fate was coming, so she tightly shut her eyes as the bot got its turn on her ass. “Thanks for that.” She shook her head and turned in time to see another speedy little bot flying by with a load of bags, one of which caught her attention.

With one quick movement she scooped her bag off it. “And thank you for that.” A self satisfying smile eased over her face. “Now then....” Her eyes scanned over the room quickly, and found exactly what she was looking for. The door simply labeled “Human”. “Victory.” She whispered to herself...”So far this has been fun guys, but, my stank ass is screaming for a shower and some familiar clothes.”

With that said, she slid through the door and closed it tight behind her. The room was much larger then she would have thought, and the cabinets held more then everything needed. She gathered the best smelling shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and shaving supplies and quickly went to work.

The water beaded down her body nicely. Palms upon the wall, she leaned forward and basked in the feeling of the warm water trailing her back. She had done all that needed to be done, but she wasn’t sure she was ready to face the reality that awaited her beyond the shower door

Once more she was adorned with a towel as she sat down and pulled her bag open. She removed a tank top, camouflage capri pants, and a black pair of Chuck Taylors. All seemed to have survived nice enough, but she still had no idea how long it had been. She took her time dressing and gazed long into the eyes of the reflection that stared back at her.

All she could think was that this was all a dream, even though she knew at some time it would all happen when she had agreed to it. She turned and snatched her bag up yet again. She took out three shrink wrapped packages. Two still seemed rather tight, while the third looked no more then a sandwich bag. “Well fuck....” She tore it open to reveal her make-up supply. The only thing that survived was a couple tubes of lip balm, and a couple eyeliner pencils. “Eh, good enough for me.”

Upon opening the second, still sealed bag, she pulled out some jewelry. Glancing over it, she shoved it back in the bag, but removed what looked to be no more then a strap of black leather. She wrapped it around her hand and called it good. Last but not least, she tore the last one open. She pulled out a package of the cigarettes and some matches. Packing the smokes on her knee, she flipped open the matches, which still looked fresh. “Thank god for small favors.”

Greedily her fingers pulled a cigarette from the pack and struck the match. The sweet stench of sulfur burned her nose, but quickly she sparked up the end and dragged deeply in. She gagged, coughed, almost puked up the goop in her gut, yet she took another drag. She tucked the smokes and a tube of the lip balm in her pocket, shoved the rest of her things in her bag, and rejoined the group.

Another man was now awake, rummaging through his own bag. “Morning Cowboy.” She flashed him a grin as she popped her hat on her head, catching the last words of the man now known as Sid. “You won’t be eating that shit anymore. I’ve so got to find the kitchen.”

'Does everyone smoke except me?' Olivia thought as she stretched and looked at herself. "Well maybe I should put on clothes which are clean. Although if I remember the cryo process shuts down the body to the point you're as clean as you go in." Dr. Iverson mumbled to herself as she walked over to a duffel bag marked with her name.

Shamelessly she unzipped it and rummaged around in the contents. "Files files files... ah files!" She said excitedly as she pushed beside clothes and pulled out a large burgundy folder tied with twine and sealed in an airtight plastic bag; marked 'RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT' in big black letters. Below that, in smaller black lettering were the words, 'Private, consult Head Analyst.' After she removed the file, she looked around. "I was told there would be a lab waiting..." She murmured as she scanned along the doorways and their little tags denoting who's stuff were were.

"Well, not much left to do but settle in and get to work." Olivia murmured as she saw a door marked 'Research Lab'. Things were looking up. Giving a last look around she waved slightly. "See ya boys, I'm going to freshen up and then see about our power problem." She said as she looked at her PDA.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________

With that she walked into her lab. "Heh, figures that emergency power wouldn't keep much in this place alive. I'm going to have to rework the power grid to keep at least the containment areas online." She murmured as she strode over to a lab table and promptly stripped.

"Aren't you worried?" Came a muffled voice from beneath her lab coat. "About?" Olivia responded, hopping as she removed her undies. "It's been a long time. I reckon." Lu Lu said from under the pile of clothing.

"Good, more to study, and more to understand." Olivia said as she stood nude amongst the equipment. It was clear she lived in a lab, seeing as how she was comfortable. "Anyway, first power, then study, ok?" Lu Lu mumbled.

"Oh fine." Olivia responded as she began putting on clean clothes. Bathing would have to wait till she could afford to know her lab wasn't in danger of not functioning. Her wardrobe was increasingly simple. Button up blouse, jeans, lab coat, and sneakers beyond intimates. With that, Olivia picked up Lu Lu and strode over to a wall. On it was a fire escape plan.

"Hey, Lucretia. Study this and guide me." Dr. Iverson said as she took a picture with her PDA for Lu to pick over. "I need to know where the Service station is in relation to where we are, and the fastest route getting there." Lu responded by giggling, "Alright, so get you completely lost, got it."

With a sigh, all Olivia could do was be guided by an AI modeled after a smart ass. Life was awesome at this point.

(OOC: I'm leaving this thread at the moment to see if the good Dr. can't help things along at the power station.)

Heh.”

The cowboy smirked as he dipped his hat in reply to the woman who had greeted him and again, to the woman who bid him farewell. The cowboy, known as Johnny Bennett, would ignore Sid’s mannerisms, as annoying as they were, taking a moment to look the man down, before speaking to him:

“An excitable fella aren’t you, boy,” he said. “But I tell you what, I wouldn’a mind playing cowboys and indians with them there women, been, what, three hundred years, ain’t it?”

The man flicked the brim of his hat, moving it slightly above his eye-level, allowing him to get a better look at the area around, his hair still proving somewhat difficult.

The power was obviously not running at optimum efficiency, to say the least. Something had happened that wasn’t supposed to, he pessimistically told himself. Even still, he wondered where the others were, there was supposed to be around ten people, but so far he had only met three and a couple of robots. That wasn’t right.

“Looks like the world is endin’,” he spoke aloud to himself. “How time flies when yer cryogenically frozen to preserve the human race, huh?”

Johnny rolled his shoulders, tugging on his hat once more, before setting off to explore the complex, after all; he, too, was promised a “lab” in which he could work. He figured he might as well take inventory while he had the time.

“Now I wonder where they hid the booze in this place,” he mumbled as he walked off, deciding to not bother cleaning himself up, which seemed to have been the first priority of just about everyone else.

His stomach rumbles loudly drowning out Johnny’s words, Sid groans and coughs and drops his cigarette to the ground. “Gahh, I’m hungry...” He stooped down to pick up his barely finished cigarette exhaling the smoke he’d had in his lungs and slowly rose to a straightened stance. Sid would sigh and look to Cowboy as he walked off to find booze. That sounded good right about now, but he wanted something solid in his stomach other than smoke and drink. He looked to Lucy, “So you’re our Chef huh? Perfect I’m famished!”

Sid would find a chair or what he thought was a chair and sit down, “So when’s breakfast?” He groaned gently and searched frantically for anything on him he could eat he ran down one of his pockets and found a candy bar a snickers’ bar “This’ll do.” He grinned and broke off the wrapper with his teeth and scarffed it down quickly. “MMMM!” He was glad that the cryo-chamber had preserved the candy bar as well as him. This would hold him over until Lucy whipped something up for breakfast. Sid would eat every bit of the chocolate and caramel. He’d wad the paper up and stick into the pocket as to not litter. Sid then resumed his cigarette taking a puff from it and exhaling through his nostrils. He was content for the moment and closed his eyes tapping the ash in to a cup. “God this ought to be fun eh?” Sid would ask Lucy and Johnny still seeing him in the room.

At the same time he asked the question he saw Lucy making off toward the big doors and he decides he doesn’t want to be in the same place as the other dude. ”Hmmm if she’s the cook she’s probably going off to find the kitchen which means, she’ll find food and I’m still pretty hungry.” “Hol’ up I’m coming with you especially if you’re going to find the kitchen.” Sidney got up off of the chair and followed after Lucy.
