Johnny did his best to ignore the thing and whatever horrible smell accompanied its hide and blood, he was here for one thing and one thing only--the bag that the ‘helpful’ robot had to have left for the girl. He did not recall seeing it back when he, well … Thought the girl was dead. In fact, he was pretty sure she was a corpse right before the monster had taken her, it would probably be for the best if he never told her that, though.
“Of course,” Johnny mumbled to himself, looking around the room. “You don’t go and leave the kid a bag, but everyone else? They get one. Not the kid, though.”
Tugging on the brim of his hat, Johnny made his way to the storage lockers, instead, recalling another awakee having mentioned them, and the fact that the robot had to have gotten the bags from somewhere.
The trip would not be a long one, as Johnny made his way through the facility, and thankfully did not seem to have that much of a distance to walk, before he saw the lockers, and begin to rummage through the things. This seemed to be a common theme for the man, rummaging through supplies, looking for whatever was useful, and acting as though nobody’s opinion about it mattered all that much. Truthfully, it was exactly that--the man didn’t care too much about what others thought of him.
Finding the locker that seemed set apart for the girl, Johnny filled one of the many black duffle bags with her belongings, along with nabbing a shirt for himself, from a different locker, most likely belonging to someone else, but what they didn’t know wouldn’t hurt them.
Ding ding
A screen hummed to life with the cheery sound, followed by the other monitors in the facility. The screens would give off a dim glow as the computers screen saver came on. There would be the sound of static momentarily before it went silent. Then a voice would come through the speakers on the monitors but no picture. “This is Jodie Caulfield. “ her voice rang out with just a bit of background noise. “The generator has been repaired…” there would be a sudden pause and the background noise would get louder.
“What the hell..” Her voice sounded a bit more distant as though she wasn’t directly speaking into the mic.” They did not brief us about this shit” it would sound as though she was talking to someone else, because there would be another muffled voice in the distance.” By the looks of it, a big tank. I don’t know its purpose, probably used for fighting. I dunno.”
There wasn’t silence, but the background noise became louder but still unclear of what the noise could be. However, the facility would feel as though it ‘vibrated’ like a very very tiny earth quake.
“Uh...I’m injured..” the tone in her voice changed from what it was previously. Perhaps there was a hint of fear, nervousness. But defiantly something was wrong. “...were gonna be making our way back, medical....stand by.” Then silence.. a strange noise would be heard like plastic was being rubbed against the mic of whatever it was she spoke into before there was static again.
The connection ended.
Gawking at the transmission for a moment, Johnny couldn't help but wonder to himself, quite audibly, what the hell else could go wrong, for a moment he even forgot what he was doing, but it the moment's amnesia was temporary and he quickly high tailed it out of the room, heading back to Medical Bay 2 at a brisk, but well paced jog.
