. . . . Personae
Name — Luskin
Birthplace — Unknown
Demeanor — Luskin possesses a charismatic charm that has characteristically made him a difficult man to dislike. He flows through life with a devil-may-care attitude, taking adversity and achievement alike in stride. Possessed of an easy grin and a quick wit, Luskin has always been able to charm his way both out of bad situations and into the good graces of women. In many of the places he has called home, he has developed a reputation as something of a rogue, for his tendancy toward leap-before-you-look behavior tends to put him into many of the aforementioned bad situations, often involving or stemming from the aforementioned women. Despite his easy going nature, however, those who spend time near Luskin find that he is possessed of an incredible intelligence and a thirst for knowledge that bely his lowly station in life.

. . . . History
Life — The decades of strife in the Greenlands has taken its toll on Aeither in many ways, not the least of which on its children. Orphans of war and unrest are sadly common, many left to fend for themselves in a harsh and often cruel world. A lucky few find their way into orphanages run by priests of the Church of Ae’Ith, and thus gain at least a chance to find a place in life. Luskin began his life as one of these lucky few, having been left at the entrance to a church as an infant. His parents presumed dead, Luskin was taken in by the Priests and grew up in an orphanage in Chorlyn, a less than noteworthy town serving as a market place for many surrounding rural villages to trade wares. Life at the orphanage was not exactly unpleasant, but the staff of the orphanage held the young men to a strict code of rules. Daily routine consisted mainly of interspersed periods of laborous work and studies. As children aged, urged toward one or the other according to their abilities in an attempt to provide at least some preperation for the outside world.
It became clear to the schoolmaster at the orphanage, Master Marius, at a very young age that Luskin was special. By the age of 4, Luskin could read and understand catachisms meant for students twice his age. By the age of 8 he had covered all of the material that generally took a student through to the age of 14, at which time they were often found an apprenticeship with a creaftsman or other professional upon leaving the school. Luskin's teachers had difficulty keeping up with his thirst for knowledge, as he chewed through and absorbed histories, religious texts, philosophies, burgeoning theories of mathamatics, and anything else the priest could get there hands on. By young adulthood, it was clear to most that Luskin had surpassed all but perhaps Master Marius in learning. When he left the orphanage at the age of 15, Luskin and Marius parted as friends, having spent a great deal of time together in the later years of Luskin's education. By this point, nearly everyone, including Luskin himself, had realized that he was not meant for a life in the rural area surrounding Chorlyn. Luskin set out to realize his potential and find his place in the world.
The decade or so since Luskin left the orphanage have found him in many different places, performing a great number of odd jobs as he moves about. Most recently, he has taken up residence in Dolovich, a relatively small but prosperous trading town located on the King's Road between Alexandria and Dahlquist, working as a laborer for a local blacksmith to earn his wage. As with his many other previous occupations, Luskin had no experience in blacksmithing prior to starting work in Dolovich, but very quickly and characteristically grew to be a productive and useful assistant for the blacksmith in a very short period of time.

. . . . Occupation
Organization — None
Class — None
Rank — None

Luskin has taken a great variety of professions over the last decade, learning enough of each to perform competently but mastering none. He considers himself a scholarly jack-of-all-trades. Luskin tends to become restless at any profession he tries, rarely staying at any one for more than a year. Strangely, even though each of these professions constituted a great deal of time and effort on the part of an employer to teach Luskin, regardless of how fast he learned, he never left on bad terms. It was as if it was as clear to the tradesman as it was to Luskin that he was meant for something else in each case. Some of the trades he has learned include blacksmith, farrier, tailor, glass blower, farmhand, herbalist's assistant, and chef, among others.

. . . . Contacts

Master Marius- The schoolmaster of the orphange in Chorlyn where Luskin grew up, Master Marius was almost a father figure to Luskin. The two have a close bond, and both know that Luskin could always find a home in Chorlyn should he need one. Marius is an aged, spindly man with wispy silver hair. Possessed of a dry, cutting wit, Marius delights in what he refers to as "the lost art of conversation."

Dickers- No one knows where or when the blacksmith aquired the nickname, but it stuck. Any inquiry into the names origin is generally met with a growl and a glare and little else. Asking after his born name tends to produce similar results. Dickers is a short squat dwarflike man with huge arms shaped by decades swinging a hammer. Considered something of a recluse by his neighbors, Dickers mainly keeps to himself whenever possible and possesses a gruff and imposing demeanor. Unlikely as it would seem, Dickers and Luskin have struck up something resembling a friendship in the time they have been working together.

. . . . Combat

Luskin prefers non violent solutions over fighting if at all possible, but he does possess some rudimentary combat training. He is proficient in the use of the quarterstaff due to limited training in self defense at the orphanage. Since leaving the orphanage, however, Luskin has found that carrying a blade, and carrying oneself with a certain air of confidence, can stave off many forms of confrontation, and has taken to carrying a simple rapier when he travels. While he has done a fair amount of studying in the area of combat and swordplay, Luskin's knowledge remains mostly academic, with little practical experience beyond a few bar scuffles and the rare encounter with would be bandits. He has relatively quick reflexes, and engages in a daily exercise routine to keep in good shape, despite the fact that his current occupation already requires that he engage in rigorous exercise. Luskin's intellect is probably his greatest advantage in combat, allowing him to defeat opponents on a strategic level when he might otherwise have a disadvantage in skill.

. . . . Flaws

Luskin's greatest flaw is his rogueish personality, which has a way of getting him into trouble. He admits to a tendancy toward glibness and a certain lack of respect for authority figures. It should also be noted that, while Luskin himself would deny any such inclination, he tends to favor the company of married women, another source of occasional trouble.
