-- Demeanor: With those she is socially permitted to associate with, Hikari is talkative and cheerful, regardless of what situation she may be in. Hikari consistently tries to remain as optimistic as possible, if only because she knows how hopeless her own situation has become. She looks up to her older brother as a guardian (as he was when they were younger), but often forces herself to smile, so not to worry him.

.:. History .:.

When Hikari and Akira were young, they lost their father. From that moment forth, their mother, a descendant of the Hikane clan, began to lose her mental stability . . .

As a child, Hikari was extremely shy and withdrawn, a trait that only lessened with time, but never truly went away. She was raised as any Cizokian girl: raised with the knowledge that she would someday marry, and it was in her and her family's best interest that she attract someone that would be fruitful for everyone. A man with status and economic stability, as was the benchmark set by her lineage, coming from a joining of members of the Sasaki and Hikane clans, both of whom were held in high esteem at the time.

But after her father's unfortunate passing, the status of their clan began to wane, and it soon was left to Hikari's brother Akira to take the reigns of the clan--but not until he had a hold of his own life. Hikari remained at the estate while Akira attended the Cizok campus of the Manarina Mage Academy, her spirits daunted by the ills of her family. It was not long after that the meek young woman was requested as a servant to the Shogun Gardini, who offered to pay Hikari's mother for the rights to her daughter as a servant. For her mother's sake, Hikari accepted the offer, and though she had no formal training prior, began to work as one of the Shogun's many servants, not for herself, but for her mother: a shell of a woman who'd starve to death if not forced to eat . . .

-- Hinin no Shingai: Hikari is not a combatant, nor is she trained in a single type of a martial art. She was, however, born with a skill which she has yet to realize. The Hinin no Shingai phenomenon stems from strong willed individuals somehow obtaining the ability to will away pain, and even other bodies. This can range from willing a sword out of one's body, without physically touching it, to creating a mental barrier powerful enough to keep other objects and bodies out--even to the point of acting as a strong barrier, capable of deflecting attacks, or even acting as a form of mild-mannered telekinesis. Although Hikari was born with this ability, she has not come to realize it as of yet. In general, a debilitating mental blow must be received before the user can even begin to theorize that he or she possesses the ability.
