Still strolling through the shadows, part II

A massive city lay amongst the Limitless Shadows; it alone spans personal borders beyond that of the average nation. Nothing is known about this land beyond the neverending eclipse, veil of shadows, and vaguely existant populous.

Sitting alone in the corner Shin didn't so much as look at Isac when he passed by. Shin sat cross legged in a corner, Shiden Blade set to his side as he entered into a deep meditation. Try as much as he might, Shin couldn't bring his Chi to manifest in front of him. Something about that teleportation technique he has used earlier prevented him from using it. He could still feel the life force, from Isac walking away to Kremnaes cleaning up glass in the kitchen but that was it, even that required him to concentrate heavily for a moment, it was no longer like a pasive sense.

Shin was aggravated, he wasn't very good at dealing with his emotions as of lately. The meditation wasn't helping and frankly Shin just didn't care. By the time Kremnaes finished with the glass Shin was leaning against the wall, one knee propped up with an arm draped over it, the other hand casually stroking the hilt of the Shiden Blade at his side.

"What do you want?" His voice wasn't what Kremnaes would probably have expected, it held no anger, it lacked any conviction. It sounded tired, weak.

"Oh um...yes..."

Kremnaes's first impression of Shin had been a negative one. To him, Shin was all sorts of awful things, violent, angry and human. Their first encounter was less than pleasing and he had yet to get used to the fact that Shin or Isac walked about carrying weapons. Everything about him was unsettling, his secrecy his sword, his intentions. The fact that he was an assertive and powerful character (everyone was more powerful than Kremnaes) was enough to make him want to hide somewhere, the fact that it was his job to accompany him only made it worse.

When he turned around and saw Shin, he was different. Even with his hand on his sword, he appeared to be tired and surprisingly, not much of a threat at the moment, even though he could be whenever he wanted to. He was surprised that Shin's words didn't sound angry or sarcastic, since by now he was constantly expecting it. Of course, this didn't mean that Kremnaes wouldn't proceed with caution. The subject needed to be approached very delicately.

Digging into the bag he wore on his back, he pulled out a small see through orange bottle, filled with pills. The label on it had Shin's name. "These are for you." He held the pills out to Shin. "The results came back from your checkup with Sturm, these are for your eyes."

Shin didn't so much as look at Kremnaes when the slug spoke, his head was hung low, blue hair cascading down in front obscuring his facial features. As Kremnaes finished, holding up a bottle of orange bottle in his direction Shin eyed it wearily, his eyes narrowing.

He didn't make a grab for the bottle right away, instead he looked passed it studying Kremnaes's features. He was sure these pills were to help, if Sturm wanted him dead he had had many opportunities. Finally, letting a few heart beats span in silence Shin reached out to take the bottle from him.

"So.. somethings wrong with me, he say what?" Shin asked as he looked over the label that had his name on it. "What do you know that I don't Kremnaes? Why are you here?" He titled his head back, a few strands of blue hair falling to the side, allowing him to set his emotionless gaze on the slug.

There was an incredibly awkward moment of silence and stillness. Shin didn't take the medication right away, but Kremnaes wasn't about to go put it back in his back either. For awhile it was just the two of them, not doing or saying anything, Shin staring at the floor and Kremnaes holding out the bottle to Shin, waiting patiently for him to take it.

There was a wave of relief when he finally took the bottle, but Kremnaes wouldn't dare show it in case it looked suspicious. He wasn't in the clear yet. At first he was uncomfortable around Shin, but as soon as Isac left he just realized that he was ALONE with Shin too. If anything were to happen, nobody could help him, he was literally at Shin's mercy, and with the unreasonable and paranoid idea that Shin could and would slice him in half without a moment's notice, Kremnaes was being very careful.

"No, nothing is terribly wr-wrong with you Shin, n-not at all. It's just that the uneven curvature in your vitreous results in some astigmatism in your aqueaous humor, causing corneal dystrophy which could eventually lead to blepharospasms presbyopia and eventually blindness. I mean..." After that long string of nonesense medical terms hopefully Shin wouldn't ask any questions. "That is to say the darkness here is weakening your vision. If you returned to the human world your eyes wouldn't be able to handle the light, you'd be blinded. B-but these pills will fix that right up, there's no need to worry!"

Even back at the clinic Kremnaes had always been terrible at telling other people they were sick, nevermind a patient with a sword. Everything was going to be alright of course, but if Shin didn't feel that way then it could easily be the end of the line for Kremnaes, and it looked like it too. Shin started to ask some worrying questions. Kremnaes had better come up with some good answers.

"N-nothing! I was given orders to accompany you and monitor your condition that's all!"

"Condition?" Shin raised a brow at that, he didn't feel any different at that moment. But eye sight was something Shin didn't want to risk losing... or did he? Would it be so bad he wondered, maybe he was making his decision because he was depressed and he knew it. Shin didn't particularly care either, he eyed the medicine in the bottle, deciding what to do.

Shin thought about it for a moment, carefully considering his decision. But when it was made it was made in the split of a second. The bottle was tossed into the air, he rose to his feet, holding the sheath of the Shiden Blade in the left hand, he reached across with his right and in a single Iaijutsu strike, without looking, he sliced the bottle in half. The result would be pills exploding everywhere and two halves of an orange bottle landing neatly on the ground.

"So be it then. I will be blind like the man before me." Shin didn't expect Kremnaes to understand, but then again if he worked for Sturm maybe he did. Calmly Shin sheathed his blade and sat back down like he had been before.

"Go do something useful." His tone like it was before as he settled back down.

In an instant the relief Kremnaes felt when Shin took the bottle was gone. He only took it to obliterate it, the man made it very clear that he had no intention to take the medication when he took the bottle and fuckin CUT IT IN HALF. There was no relief now, only terror. Kremnaes was slow, it was in his nature. When Shin took out the sword how was he to know he meant to cut the bottle and not him?

"AAAHHH!"

He crouched down with his hands over his head, trembling in fear from Shin's powerful swing. By now, it had been an automatic reaction to the blade. After a few moments of cowering, he opened one of his chest eyes, and then another, surprised to see that he was still in one piece, and disappointed to see that the orange bottle was in two pieces, the pills spilled all over the floor.

That fucking bastard. A simple no would have sufficed, he didn't need to make such a dramatic point of not taking them. To top it all of, he finished by ordering him around. Maybe all humans were this deaf but Kremnaes was sent to accompany Shin, not to be his servant bitch. He took orders from Sturm and Sturm alone unless he was ordered otherwise. Yet despite how angry he was, and how obvious his hatred towards Shin was, he said absolutely nothing, he did not scowl, he did not even suggest that there was any displeasure. This man was his assignment, so he had to watch his mouth. All this meant was that he needed to find another way around things.

To make himself useful, he got on his hands and knees, picking up each pill bit by bit, cleaning up after Shin's mess. It took awhile of cleaning, but after he got his nerve up, he finally spoke in a stutter.

"P-perhaps we should...we should just call i-it a night?"

'It would be so easy to end it's life...'

Shin stared hard at Kremnaes as the slug moved to pick up all the little pills that had been scattered around. It reminded Shin of a women, crawling around and cleaning up. No...this thing was even less then a women Shin told himself, it wasn't even human.

Despite his emotions Shin didn't strike out at the thing, he didn't know what held him back, but he stayed his hand. Instead... Shin would test this things will. In all appearances it seemed weak, but perhaps it's mind was a different thing? Shin doubted it though, the creature didn't have a warriors intellect.

"Yes, I think that would be the wisest course of action."

Shin sunk deeper against the wall, closing his eyes and allowing himself to relax.

Shin's comparison wouldn't be too far from the truth, Kremnaes did sport some "feminine features" of his very own, and the situation bore an uncomfortable resemblance to a scene of domestic violence, the woman trembling in fear, hurrying to clean up after her husband's mess while he eyed her angrily, wondering to make a mess of her, and Kremnaes knew it.

The pills were being picked up as fast as Kremnaes could, he was being particularly careful, not wanting to much up Isac's floor with his slime, but by now all of his efforts were a lost cause. He had already walked back and forth so many times, and had been down on his hands and knees to clean up mess after mess and spill after spill that by now it would have been more than apparent that Kremnaes had been there, he left his sticky slimey mark.

Later on there would be guilt for the stickiness he brought upon Isac's house, but his primary emotion alone with Shin right now was fear. Even though he was just cleaning up, there wasn't a doubt in his mind that Shin wanted desperately to use his sword.

"Y-yes well..." He put the pills in the trash, and finally stood up. His head was pointed towards Shin, but the eyes on his chest were downcast and shifting. " Goodnight then." He said, retreating to his original corner, curling up for some sleep.
