-- Demeanor: An active girl with an adventurous spirit, Val is the kind of person who leaps before she looks. Energetic and usually optimistic, but gets impatient and frustrated easily. For better or worse, she doesn't seem to know her own limits.
She also has a bit of a fiery temper, and her quick mood changes (along with her physical appearance) cause many people to quickly dismiss her as "childish."

One of many children orphaned out in the Uncharted Territories, Val's parents were killed by bandits in the area when she was only six, but she was rescued by a mercenary before she came to harm. She tagged along with him until they reached an abandoned church in a destroyed village where a number of other orphans were carving out a life, at which point he left her in their care.
The orphans were often in aided by a pair of treasure hunters named Zach Kaiser and Fenix Black, who frequented the area and brought them food, money, clothing, and other essentials.
Inspired by their benefactors, many of the older orphans began making increased efforts to better their lives. Some went to nearby outposts and villages to work, others began cultivating a small amount of crop, and still others raised small farm animals, among other things. Val herself helped care for the younger children.
In time, she developed a crush on Fenix, and despite being three years younger than him managed to have a relationship with him. Soon the limited time he spent there wasn't enough for her, and she requested to join them on their travels. However, both Fenix and Kaiser opposed this on the grounds that she'd be in danger, despite the fact that she showed some proficiency with magic. Frustrated, she broke the relationship off.
Soon after she set out to Algeorth's branch of the Marianna Magic Academy, wanting to nurture her talent and secretly hoping to prove to those back at the orphanage that she could be self-sufficient.

Val is a mage through and through--she's weak in close up, physical combat, specializing in blasting enemies from afar with her magic. As she primarily knows destructive magic and virtually no defensive magic, she's at her best working alongside someone who can protect her from physical attacks.
-- Weapon of Choice: Magic Staff: Val has little more than basic training in actual martial combat, but it serves as an aid to spellcasting.

Arcane Magic: The ability to cast magic via studying spells. Theoretically anyone is capable casting this kind of magic, but in practice some are better than others and everyone has their own specialty.
Val is capable of casting a wide variety of magic if she has a written version of the spell. Otherwise she's limited to the magic she's memorized:
Cantrips: Rudimentary spells that are the building blocks for all arcane magic, encompassing a wide variety of weak spells of all types. All magic students are expected to know them.
Fire Magic: Val's particular specialty is casting spells related to the element of fire, the vast majority of which are destructive in nature. She's reached moderate power, but has yet to master any higher level spells.

Envious: Val is almost never satisfied with what she has, instead seeing what others are capable of and wanting that too. Unfortunately, many mages view this as a positive trait, and thus the behavior has been somewhat reinforced by her time at the Marianna Magic Academy.
Hotheaded: Val becomes frustrated easily, and is quick to lose her tempter with others.
